Tracking Number Validation
The flow checks for a valid tracking number - a critical gate for EDI 856 generation. The flow branches based on whether tracking is present or missing.
Tracking Present: AI-Powered EDI 856 Generation
If a tracking number exists, OpenAI GPT-4.1 generates a fully compliant X12 EDI 856 Advance Ship Notice - with all required envelope segments (ISA, GS, ST, SE, GE, IEA), BAK, and REF segments - returned in base64-encoded format.
Tracking Missing: Instant Microsoft Teams Alert
If no tracking number is found, an alert is immediately sent to a Microsoft Teams channel - naming the delivery number and customer - and explicitly flagging the chargeback risk to enable fast remediation.
EDI 856 Formatting & Finalization
The AI-generated EDI document is parsed, decoded from base64, validated for structure, and finalized as a clean X12 856 document with a 997 acknowledgment envelope.
EDI File Delivery via SFTP
The completed EDI 856 file is uploaded to a designated SFTP server path organized by shipment number - delivering the Advance Ship Notice to the trading partner's EDI network.
